Box of book stuff. Book Riot. Podcasts.

So I found a new podcast today that I really like.  I use an iPhone app called SWELL that I really love, it’s like Pandora but for audio news, TED talks, talk radio, comedy, etc.  You bookmark or thumbs-up what you like, and if you swipe away from an audio story, it knows you didn’t care for it.  I listen to a few things daily, but other times I just let it play.  By letting it just play today I found a new podcast.  It’s called The Book Riot Podcast:

It’s just all things books, and I gotta love that.

Also, they are putting together a “Book Riot’s Quarterly box“, which is like a BarkBox or a BirchBox and it sounds really interesting! Listen to the podcast for more info (or it’s probably on their website, too.)

Garrison Keillor, The Writer’s Almanac and Harper Lee

I used to listen to Garrison Keillor‘s podcast “The Writer’s Almanac” religiously.  I got out of the habit but am picking it up again.  It’s a 6-minute audio recording where he gives a snippet of info about an author, then reads a poem.  I love his voice. I love his books that are collections of poems, my favorite being “Good Poems“. The Writer’s Almanac website has archives going back to 1993, so you could really get lost in a sea of wonderful poems.  You can listen to The Writer’s Almanac via the website or via iTunes (and probably other popular podcast aps such as Stitcher, etc.).

Today he talked about Harper Lee, and he quoted parts of a letter that she wrote to Oprah Winfrey in 2006.  I just adored the letter she wrote.  You can read it here:
